Growth Requirements of Dysgonic and Eugonic Strains of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis
نویسنده
چکیده
On pr imary isolation from natural sources, bovine tubercle bacilli grow more poorly on ordinary culture media than do human tubercle bacilli. After prolonged incubation or numerous transfers, however, they often give rise to variants which grow more rapidly (1-4). The primary, slow growing cultures have been called "dysgonic" and the var iant rapidly growing strains "eugonic" (S). The experiments to be presented here were planned to define the nutritional differences between dysgonic and eugonic strains.

Growth Requirements of Dysgonic and Eugonic Strains of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Var. Bovis
The nutritional requirements of dysgonic and eugonic bovine tubercle bacilli were investigated in liquid Tween-albumin medium. The following conclusions were reached:- Dysgonic bovine tubercle bacilli require for multiplication long chain fatty acids which can be supplied as oleic, palmitic, or stearic acid whereas eugonic bovine strains can grow in the absence of fatty acid and can utilize glu...
متن کاملPrevalence ofMultidrug Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis by Mycobacteria growth indicator tube in Golestan province, North of Iran
Abstract Background and objectives: Identification and monitoring of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains (MDR) is highlighted by the high risk of their spreading in different areas. Prevalence of these strains was evaluated in Golestan province in northeast of Iran. Material and Methods: Drug susceptibility testing to Isoniazid and rifampin was carried out for 148 clinical sa...
متن کاملThe pyruvate requirement of some members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex is due to an inactive pyruvate kinase: implications for in vivo growth.
Through examination of one of the fundamental in vitro characteristics of Mycobacterium bovis--its requirement for pyruvate in glycerol medium--we have revealed a lesion in central metabolism that has profound implications for in vivo growth and nutrition. Not only is M. bovis unable to use glycerol as a sole carbon source but the lack of a functioning pyruvate kinase (PK) means that carbohydra...
متن کاملIsoniazid MIC and KatG Gene Mutations among Mycobacterium tuberculosis Isolates in Northwest of Iran
Objective(s) Isoniazid (INH) is one of the main first line drugs used in treatment of tuberculosis and development of resistance against this compound can result in serious problems in treatment procedures. Resistance to INH is mediated mainly by mutation in KatG gene that is coded for the catalase enzyme. The proportional method for detection of INH-resistance is time consuming due to the slo...
متن کاملEvaluation of Gene Mutations Involved in Drug Resistance in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Strains Derived from Tuberculosis Patients in Mazandaran, Iran, 2013
Drug resistance (especially multiple drug resistance) in Mycobacterium tuberculosis makes global concerns in treatment and control of tuberculosis. Rapid diagnosis of drug resistant strains of the bacteria has vital importance in the prognosis of the disease. The aim of this study was to identify the mutations responsible for drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains derived from pa...
